🧼 Blastomussa Coral Care Guide
About Blastomussa wellsi
Blastomussa is a slow-growing large polyp stony (LPS) coral, known for its unique, soft-looking structure and vibrant color morphs. It’s one of the few corals that works well in both beginner setups and collector tanks. Peaceful and hardy, it expands fully under the right conditions and adds a soft pulse of color and texture to the reef.

🌍 Origin
Aquacultured from Indo-Pacific lineage for increased coloration and survivability. This yellow-mouth morph is selectively grown and rarely found in the wild.

💡 Lighting Requirements
Prefers lower to moderate light. Too much intensity may cause polyp retraction or color fading.

Low Light: 30–60 PAR
Medium Light: 60–100 PAR
Ideal placement: mid-to-low areas of the tank, tucked into shaded rock crevices or coral islands.

🌊 Water Flow
Low, indirect flow helps this coral open fully while preventing debris buildup. Strong or direct flow can prevent polyp inflation.

🍽️ Feeding
While photosynthetic, this coral responds well to feeding. Target-feed 1–2 times per week using coral foods like Reef Roids, powdered blends, or micro-sized meaty foods to boost growth and vibrancy.

🌱 Propagation
Easy to frag once the colony has multiple heads. Use a coral saw or bone cutters and allow healing in a low-stress, iodine-dipped recovery zone.

🔄 Acclimation
Use a drip acclimation method over 30–45 minutes to minimize shock. Blastomussa prefers stable salinity, pH, and moderate nutrient levels.

⚠️ Placement Tip:
Blastomussa is peaceful and can be placed near most corals without risk of aggression. Allow space for inflation to avoid crowding.

🌈 Why It’s Special:
The vibrant yellow mouth creates a glowing focal point against the dark purple lobes, giving it a galactic, eye-like look that stands out under actinic blues. A must-have for any collector looking to build a palette of rare and vivid LPS corals.
